Following on from the official selection, Semaine de la Critique in turn reveals the works selected for the2025 edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Dedicated exclusively to first and second features from France and abroad, this parallel selection showcases the vitality of young filmmakers .
This 2025 vintage will feature 11 films: 7 in the running for the awards, 4 to be presented out of competition. Among them is Sven Bresser's Rietland (Reedland in the original version), starring Gerrit Knobbe and Loïs Reinders. As this is the Dutch director's first film, it is in contention for the Caméra d'Or 2025.
La Semaine de la Critique 's biography of the director: "Sven Bresser is a Dutch director. His first short film, Summer and Everything Else (2018), was selected in official competition at the Venice Film Festival, at the Toronto International Film Festival, and at many other festivals, where it won numerous awards, both national and international. His first feature film, Reedland, is set in the rural landscapes where he himself grew up."
Reedland (Rietland) will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.
Synopsis: When lonely farmer Johan discovers the lifeless body of a young girl on his land, he is overwhelmed by a strange feeling. While caring for his granddaughter, he sets out in search of the truth, determined to shed light on this tragedy. But evil sometimes lurks behind the most ordinary appearances...
