After the official selection, it's now the turn of Semaine de la Critique to unveil its program for the Cannes Festival 2025. As a reminder, this parallel selection highlights first and second films only, whether French or international, in order to promote young cinematographic creation.
This year, la Semaine de la Critique has selected 11 feature films, 7 in competition and 4 in special screenings. Among them, Momoko Seto's animated film Planets, which will close the 64th Semaine de la Critique.
La Semaine de la Critique 's biography of the director: "Momoko Seto was born in Tokyo, Japan, before coming to France to study at Le Fresnoy. She works as a director at the CNRS, where she makes scientific documentaries. In 2021, she was awarded the Cristal du CNRS. In parallel, she makes films, notably the Planet series (Audi Short Film Award in Berlin 2015 for Planet Σ)."
Planets will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.
Synopsis: Dendelion, Baraban, Léonto and Taraxa, four dandelion achenes rescued from a succession of nuclear explosions that destroyed the Earth, find themselves hurled into the cosmos. Stranded on an unfamiliar planet, they set off in search of soil suitable for the survival of their species.
