Following a demanding screening process - involving over 1,600 films - the Quinzaine des Cinéastes has unveiled the selection for its 57th edition, for the Cannes Film Festival 2025. A total of 18 international feature-length films have been chosen by the team of this parallel festival selection, particularly appreciated by festival-goers.
From Iraq, director Hasan Hadi will represent his homeland with his first feature film, The President's Cake.
The opinion of the Quinzaine des Cinéastes: "We're very proud and happy to have found a kind of little nugget from Iraq, a very rare kind of cinematography. And a first film at that: Hasan Hadi's The President's Cake. The film is set in the 90s under the regime of Saddam Hussein. It's a kind of tale in which children are the heroes. Children not unlike Kiarostami's own children. There's a tenderness, a simplicity, an emotion in the journey, the trajectory that these young children will experience in the course of this film, while showing us in the background the economic misery into which Iraqis were plunged in the 90s."
The President's Cake will be unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The release date in French cinemas is not yet known.
Synopsis: The official synopsis of this film is not yet known.
