Woman and Child by Saeed Roustaee, competing in the official selection at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival

Iranian filmmaker Saeed Roustaee returns to Cannes 2025 with his film Mother and Child.

The Cannes Festival 2025 is fast approaching. While all the selections(Semaine de la Critique, Quinzaine des Cinéastes, Acid) have unveiled their programs, the selection committee has added new films to the official selection, including in competition for the Palme d'Or.

Saeed Roustaee(La Loi de Téhéran) enters the official competition with his new film, Mother and Child (Zan va bache in the original version). The Iranian director won the FIPRESCI Prize and the Citizenship Award for his feature film Leila et ses frères at Cannes 2022.

For this film, the filmmaker was found guilty by a Tehran court of "contributing to opposition propaganda against the Islamic system" and sentenced to six months' imprisonment and a five-year filming ban.

Where and when to watch Mother and Child in France?

Mother and Child will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival 2025. The movie's release date in French theaters has yet to be announced.
