Set to hit Netflix on July 25, 2025, On the Trigger is a action/thriller series from South Korea, created by Oh-Seung Kwon. It stars Kim Nam-gil as a determined policeman pitted against an arms dealer played by Kim Young-kwang. In a country where gun ownership remains exceptional, the rise in shootings is plunging society into unprecedented tension. The series explores this universe through a tense duel between two men on opposing paths.
On the Trigger will air on Netflix from July 25, 2025.
Synopsis: In a South Korea usually devoid of firearms, illegal sales are on the increase. A determined cop and a shrewd dealer clash in an explosive showdown.
Sur la gâchette offers an original angle on the Korean series landscape: that of a country faced with an explosion in the circulation of firearms, a historically marginal phenomenon in South Korea. This reversal of the situation creates a climate of fear and urgency, in which the police try to regain control.
The character played by Kim Nam-gil, an investigator determined to stop the escalation of violence, clashes with the character played by Kim Young-kwang, a shrewd trafficker who takes advantage of the prevailing chaos. The face-off promises to be intense, at the crossroads of crime thriller and psychological drama.
Through this duel, the series explores classic action thriller themes: the boundary between good and evil, the pressure of duty, the temptation of corruption. The visual approach is reminiscent of productions such as A Model Family or My Name, combining nervous action scenes with constant dramatic tension.
Urban realism and escalating danger seem to play a key role in the staging, in a changing South Korea where violence challenges the established order.
Fans of Korean crime series and thrillers such as Stranger, Vincenzo or Taxi Driver may be particularly interested. The series is aimed at an adult audience with a taste for intense stories, driven by strong moral confrontations and taut narrative construction.
Thanks to its duo of popular actors and international distribution via Netflix, On the Trigger could also appeal to a wide audience curious to discover another facet of South Korean crime fiction, more rooted in current affairs and social issues.
