Rapunzel in live-action: the Teagan Croft-led film is set for a March 2028 release.

The live-action remake of Rapunzel finally has a release date. Announced at D23 2026, Disney confirmed that this new adaptation led by Teagan Croft, Milo Manheim and Kathryn Hahn will hit the U.S. on March 31, 2028. Filming is currently underway in Spain under the direction of Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman, Better Man). The French release date remains to be confirmed.

Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim, who portray Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, didn’t make the trip to D23: the two actors sent in a message from the set. Kathryn Hahn, who plays Mother Gothel, was on hand for the presentation. Disney also offered a sneak peek at the cast in character, though those images haven’t been released on the studio’s official channels just yet.

At 21, Teagan Croft is about to leave behind the darkness of Rachel Roth in Titans and the maritime adventure of True Spirit on Netflix to don the legendary, floor-length braids of Rapunzel. Meanwhile, 24-year-old Milo Manheim, a bona fide Disney product, hops from the wild high school of Zombies to the exploits of Flynn Rider. Also seen in School Spirits, the son of Camryn Manheim finished second in Season 27 of Dancing with the Stars.

Facing them, Kathryn Hahn will portray the villainous Mother Gothel (Bad Moms, Bad Times at the El Royale), who keeps Rapunzel prisoner to tap into the powers of her hair. The film will be produced by Kristin Burr (Freaky Friday, Cruella) and written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Thor: Love and Thunder).

Announced in December 2024, the project Rapunzel was put on hold after the commercial disappointment of the live-action Snow White, released in March 2025. Disney then revived development and casting discussions. Scarlett Johansson had been floated as a potential Mother Gothel before the role ultimately went to Kathryn Hahn.

Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim reprise the roles originally voiced in the English version by Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi in the 2010 animated film. Rapunzel followed a young woman with magical hair kept prisoner in a tower by Mother Gothel. Her meeting with the thief Flynn Rider lets her discover the outside world and set out to uncover the origin of the lanterns she watches every year on her birthday.

This adaptation is part of the wave of Disney live-actions, reignited notably by the success of Lilo & Stitch. It also joins Vaiana among the studio's recent animated films adapted into live-action.

After a pause and the announcement of its leading trio, the live-action Rapunzel has now moved into production and even has a first release date. Disney has yet to announce its timetable for French theaters or publish online the images shown at D23.
