The Cannes Film Festival 2026 has unveiled its lineup for the May 12–23 edition, and Nicolas Winding Refn’s Her Private Hell is among the picks in the Cannes Première section. This strand brings ahead-of-the-curve screenings, offering a glimpse of highly anticipated films before they hit theaters. It’s a valuable showcase for these works, which benefit from the festival’s aura without competing for the Palme d’Or.
The Danish director is a Cannes staple, having first graced the Croisette in 2011 to premiere his film Drive and leaving with the Best Director prize in hand. Since then, Nicolas Winding Refn has returned to unveil Only God Forgives in official competition, The Neon Demon in competition as well, and two episodes of his series Too Old to Die Young, out of competition. The Danish filmmaker has also served on the festival jury under Jane Campion’s presidency during its 67th edition.
Synopsis : As a strange fog engulfs a futuristic city and unleashes a deadly, elusive presence, a troubled young woman sets out to find her father. Along the way, her fate crosses that of an American GI on a desperate mission to pull his daughter out of Hell.
