Yaga, a police thriller with supernatural overtones led by Carrie-Anne Moss, Noah Reid and Clark Backo, will debut on HBO Max on October 23, 2026. Adapted from Kat Sandler's play, the series reimagines the Baba Yaga legend through a disappearance in a small coastal town.
Rapp, a private detective portrayed by Noah Reid, heads to Whittock to track down Henry Park, the young heir to a major fishing outfit. His investigation quickly pits him against Carson, a local police officer reluctant to let an outsider meddle in the affair.
Rapp’s investigation also leads him to Katherine, a university professor played by Carrie-Anne Moss. Around these three characters, a web of suspects, clandestine affairs, and long-buried secrets forms, as the disappearance seems to be slipping beyond the reach of a routine case.
The series comprises eight episodes of about 30 minutes. Kat Sandler, the playwright of the original piece, oversees the writing and artistic direction. David Frazee and Rachel Talalay share directing duties. The cast also features Hudson Williams, Sheila McCarthy, Megan Follows, Katharine Isabelle, Hiro Kanagawa, Emilija Baranac and Georgia Acken.
The reference to Baba Yaga here isn’t a straight adaptation of the fairy tale. The series instead uses this Slavic folklore figure to fuel a contemporary crime thriller where some secrets trace back across generations.
The first two episodes of Yaga are slated for October 23, 2026 in North America. HBO Max confirms the same date for the French launch, but has not yet detailed the release schedule for subsequent episodes in France.
