Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is taking things to the next level! Developed by Kojima Productions, this highly anticipated sequel has been available on PS5 since June 26, 2025, and is set to launch on PC on March 19, 2026. The release date was announced during a State of Play event held on February 12, 2026. A follow-up to the 2019 cult hit, it features the return of Sam Porter Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, in a post-apocalyptic world where delivering supplies and reconnecting fractured territories remain at the core of the gameplay experience.

Death Stranding 2 trailer:

Originally presented at the Game Awards, the game finds Sam, along with Fragile, in what appears to be their home, in the company of a BB who no longer lives in his "amniotic sac". Sam is expected to travel beyond known borders and continue his mission. The cast of Death Stranding 2 is a heavyweight affair, with Norman Reedus, but also Léa Seydoux (in the role of Fragile), Troy Baker and Elle Fanning.

A game that, at first glance, appears to be a PS5 exclusive, according to our colleagues at jeuxvideo.com. Whether this exclusivity is temporary or permanent has not been disclosed yet, even during the Games Awards. Kojima Productions and Sony also took advantage of this State of Play to announce an upcoming espionage-themed game called " target="_blank">PHYSINT, along with a film, though no further details were shared. It’s not related to Death Stranding 2, but it’s an intriguing piece of news... In the meantime, let's revisit Sam and BB's first adventure. Grab your controllers!

Our Take:

First question: do you need to have played the first game to enjoy the sequel? Our answer is yes. The universe, story, and approach of Death Stranding are so unique that it might be difficult to fully grasp without having experienced the first installment. That said, we appreciate the recap that highlights the main events of the initial chapter without giving away the entire story.

Death Stranding immerses us in a world governed by its own logic—what’s fresh and surprisingly engaging—an atmosphere that continues into this second opus. The downside of such originality is that the game features a lot of texts and cinematic sequences that can sometimes over-explain, potentially affecting the flow. But considering the complexity of this universe, that’s understandable.

In terms of gameplay, the core concept remains largely the same, so players will find their bearings. Interface-wise, there have been significant improvements: shortcuts now make cargo management easier—a point of frustration in the first game. For example, optimizing your cargo now only requires two button presses.

As for the story, if Death Stranding was already notable, this sequel takes more daring steps, introducing even more imaginative characters. We won’t spoil much, but fans of metaphorical worlds looking for a game that breaks the mold should find plenty to enjoy here.
