Pokémon Pokopia: 6 Essential Tips to Get Started Strongly on Nintendo Switch 2

Pokémon Pokopia was released on Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026: this game lets players reshape multiple worlds however they see fit, creating a more welcoming environment for Pokémon. Here are some tips and tricks to make your gameplay smoother.

Almost immediately upon release, the game is already making waves: it’s quite a departure from what Game Freak usually serves up. Pokémon Pokopia is something of an underdog in the Pokémon universe. There are no battles or catching monsters here. Instead, your goal is to rebuild the world and create a beautiful, vibrant environment for your companions to thrive in.

The players take on the role of a curious Metamorph, waking up one day in a devastated world. Humanity has vanished completely, nature is in ruins, and Pokémon appear to be hiding from everything. By reviving each environment, Metamorph gradually brings the Pokémon back to life.

Pokopia blends the charming life simulation of Animal Crossing with the creative sandbox of Minecraft: imagine an enormous empty world, a blank canvas just waiting to be brought to life. It’s up to you to rebuild homes, cultivate plants, and redesign towns and countryside, transforming each world into a cozy haven for Pokémon. But the journey to create the perfect paradise isn’t without its challenges...

Brace yourself for a test of patience when diving into Pokémon Pokopia and tackling all the quests. The worlds are sprawling, the Pokémon plentiful, and each has its own needs. At first, the challenge might seem daunting or even impossible. But don’t worry, Metamorph friends—here are some tips to help you get started on the right foot in your adventure.

Expand Your Storage Capacity

Building a city requires plenty of materials. Luckily, they’re abundant within the game. Unfortunately, your backpack has a very limited capacity. To turn this bag into a Mary Poppins-style satchel — or at least significantly boost your storage space — you can purchase several "storage tips" from the Pokémon Center PC shop. You might also consider buying a waist bag, which grants you a few extra inventory slots.

Making Building Easier

Speaking of inventory and storage: you can build and place multiple storage boxes right next to your workbench. This way, whenever you want to craft furniture or decorative items, you can quickly access the materials stored in these boxes, in addition to those kept in your backpack.

Teleport Between Worlds

Staying in the realm of construction, you'll soon come across massive doors during your exploration—gateways to other worlds (provided you've reached the necessary level). These openings gradually allow players to unlock diverse cities and ecosystems. But as the map expands, traveling between these different worlds becomes increasingly challenging.

So, one of your first tasks when entering a new world is to build yourself a house. No need for a mansion— a simple home will do for now. These different dwellings will allow you to teleport instantly between worlds, from house to house. Just remember to place the Métamorph flag on your home so it becomes officially linked to you.

Quenching the Earth’s Thirst

Let's go back to the beginning of the adventure: Metamorph enters a dry, desolate world. You'll often be asked to water the land to help plants regain life. Later on, you'll need to summon rain to free Onix from its hiding spot. Here's a tip that will serve you well—though Onix might not agree: when the rain starts, let it fall for a few hours. This will gradually moisten the entire terrain without any effort on your part. So, be patient before rushing to rescue Onix, as the rain will stop once enough water has soaked in.

However, if you didn't wait long enough, don't worry: you can still bring the rain back by having Squirtle perform the rain dance.

Beware of Caves

As you explore the map, you'll often come across holes or caves that lead underground. These areas can hide valuable items and resources. But be careful: before plunging to the bottom of a hole, make sure you have a way back up.

Underground areas tend to be more confined, with the camera staying close to the Pokémon, making it hard at times to spot the platforms that would allow you to ascend. It’s easy to lose your way while searching for the exit, so don’t rush in blindly.

Looking Back

As you advance, you'll unlock new abilities. Take the time to backtrack and revisit areas you've already explored — chances are, you'll discover previously blocked pathways hidden behind a pile of rubble or a fallen log. With each new skill, fresh opportunities unfold before you!

Enjoy the game!
