Four years after Battlefield 2042, Electronic Arts and DICE are marking the grand return of their famous shooter franchise with Battlefield 6, now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series. Presented in an explosive trailer, the game promises, according to its creators, "the ultimate total war experience." This new installment marks a major revival of the Battlefield saga, with revamped gameplay, next-gen graphics, and a clear desire to turn the page on the criticism directed at Battlefield 2042.
In terms of gameplay, Battlefield 6 returns to the fundamentals of the series: vast maps, large-scale combat, massive destruction of environments and the return of soldier classes, while allowing a certain freedom in the choice of weapons (nearly 50 available). The game abandons 128-player servers in favor of greater balance on the battlefield. Taking advantage of the Battlefield Labs feature, many players were able to preview certain mechanics to fine-tune the experience before its release.
With its campaign mode back for the first time in several years, and multiplayer at the heart of its DNA, Battlefield 6 appeals as much to nostalgic fans of the first opuses as to new generations of gamers. The plot focuses on Pax Armata, a private militia financed by formerNATO member states, which is wreaking havoc on a global scale."This trailer introduces Pax Armata, a private militia financed by former NATO states whose intentions threaten to unleash a global conflict," explains a press release.
The experience is designed for fans of strategy and cooperation. Combat promises to be intense, whether on the ground, at sea or in the air, with great freedom of movement and highly destructible environments. Enough to appeal to series veterans and newcomers alike.
The next major communication event for Battlefield 6 is scheduled for Thursday, July 31 at 8:30 p.m. (French time). This official livestream, orchestrated by Battlefield Studios, will lift the veil on the game's multiplayer features and unveil some never-before-seen maps, as well as classic and new game modes. The creators promise"the most ambitious title in the history of the series", a statement that lives up to the public's expectations.
Following the presentation, several FPS content creators will be invited to stream gameplay previews live from events in Paris, Berlin, London and Los Angeles. A second global event will take place in Hong Kong on August 2, proving that the Battlefield machine is well and truly back in full swing.
Our opinion on Battlefield 6:
Playtime: 13 hours on PS5
Is the Battlefield saga back in favor after the criticism surrounding Battlefield 2042, released four years ago? Pretty much, yes: first of all, by offering a real campaign mode that is fairly comprehensive in its exploration of the maps and weapons used. You also play as several characters, but don't get too attached to them, as the game takes a bit of a Game of Thrones approach . Nevertheless, the campaign is enjoyable to play, even if the dialogue and story are a little predictable and clichéd. The story itself is very timely, perhaps even a little too topical.
Graphically speaking, we're more mixed: on the one hand, we have breathtaking landscapes and truly beautiful photography, and on the other hand, we have the city of New York graphically under construction, with no real texture, and clearly unfinished. It looks like anything but the Big Apple. In short, a little disappointing.
On the multiplayer side, we find everything that made the franchise so appealing in terms of multiplayer, with a plethora of game modes and the return of classes. It's still as well thought out as ever, and what was lacking in the last installment has been corrected. What more could you ask for! Battlefield 6 is therefore a good vintage, a very good one even. The franchise is back, and it's likely to cause some damage in its wake. All that's left is for you to make up your own mind!
Electronic Arts has yet to make any official announcements concerning the numerous information leaked in advance - notably the precise release date, available editions and a possible open beta. We'll have to wait for further announcements to find out all the details about the launch.
In the meantime, fans can take another look at the adrenalin-pumping trailer, and get ready to discover Battlefield 6 's multiplayer in a few days' time. It remains to be seen whether this new instalment will live up to all its promises and allow the cult saga to regain its former prestige.
