Matières à réflexion: two ultra-fashionable accessories concept stores

Matières à réflexion is the concept store that will delight us. Between the brand's bags and its cutting-edge selection of jewelry, hats and accessories, we're going to love these two Parisian boutiques. See you now at Les Abbesses or at the boutique-atelier on rue de Poitou in the Marais district.

Matières à Réflexion began as a brand of upcycled bags created 14 years ago by Laetitia and Cyrille. After visiting a number of trade fairs and retail outlets, the two designers decided to open their own store, with the aim of sharing the story behind their bags with those who would wear them. Matières à Réflexion is an ethical and committed brand. The first models of upcycled bags were made from textiles, then Laetitia trained in leather goods and created new bags from vintage leather jackets.

The Marais boutique-atelier is the first to open. Alongside Matières à Reflexion bags, the founders bring in other emerging designers of jewelry, shoes, hats and even ready-to-wear. These are mostly French-made brands, but also ones that can't be found anywhere else.

And Laetitia has a keen eye for talent. Jewelry designer Louise Hendricks and shoe designer Patricia Blanchet, both now household names, sold their first pieces at Matières à Reflexion.

Among the brand's bags, we still find iconic models like the Luna (the first name of Laetitia's first daughter), or the Galiane, now available in patchwork. We also love the Messenger, a mixed model inspired by French army kit bags.

On the jewelry side, there's Louise Hendricks, of course, but also Soko, an ethical brand from Kenya and its creations in recycled raw brass with touches of wood and horn.

We also discover a few ready-to-wear pieces, such as jackets and dresses byElsa Esturgie. As for shoes, we love the pretty sandals by Rivecour , made entirely in Portugal.

Finally, when it comes to hats, we're spoilt for choice. We hesitate between pretty caps and Stetsons. We've also fallen in love with the Marseille-based brand Van Palma and its exceptional hats, made entirely in France. The 100% wool hat embroidered with a bird and its fine gold chain costs 170€.
