The focal point of the Galerie Vivienne, and a magnet for all who pass by, the Jousseaume bookshop is an institution in the sale of antiquarian and rare books. Open since 1826, it is one of the oldest bookshops in Paris still in business. You'll find books dating back to the 19th century, prints and engravings, as well as second-hand contemporary novels.
It's a place steeped in history and culture, and one that tourists love to explore. From its location to its appearance, the Jousseaume bookshop is a veritable time capsule, reminiscent of the Paris of yesteryear. In fact, it's featured in numerous films, as the Galerie Vivienne is a film set that has inspired many a filmmaker, including Louis Malle's Zazie dans le métro.
The Jousseaume bookshop is open from Monday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and as well as being a great tourist attraction, it's also home to a number of bargains for literature lovers.
