If you're the type who devours books and loves Nordic literature, then head tothe Swedish Institute from October 17 to December 21, 2025. For the second year running, the Scandinavian cultural center nestled in the Marais district is hosting a pop-up bookstore dedicated to authors from Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland.

Behind this pop-up is Bokbar, the famous Nordic bookstore-café located in Paris's 20th arrondissement. This fall, Bokbar is setting up shop on the ground floor of the Hôtel de Marle, offering a selection of novels—both new releases and classics—as well as comic books, children's books, and beautiful art books.

If you love Nordic literature, you're sure to find something you like. From Jón Kalman Stefánsson to Tove Jansson, Sara Stridsberg, Sofi Oksanen, Karl Ove Knausgård, Karolina Ramqvist, Aslak Nore, Auður Ava Ólafsdóttir, Lars Norén, Kjell Westö, Stig Dagerman, Mia Kankimäki, Tom Malmquist, and even Faroese writer Jóanes Nielsen... Bokbar's pop-up bookstore focuses primarily on contemporary novelists and poets. If you're looking to stock up on Nordic crime novels, then move on. For everyone else, this pop-up bookstore is a real gold mine, with books that are sometimes difficult to find in French. You should also know that the bookstore will soon be offering these same novels in English.

During our visit, we also spotted a few books dedicated to the adventures of the Moomins, the famous family of trolls straight out of Tove Jansson's imagination, as well as a selection of art books in line with the Institute's program, such as this beautiful work devoted to the paintings of Swedish artist Sara-Vide Ericson. In December, the pop-up bookstore will showcase beautiful books to give as Christmas gifts.
