A solidarity market of French fruits and vegetables takes root in Yvelines this Thursday, August 27, 2026: the agricultural union MODEF is offering five tons of produce at affordable prices, sold directly by the growers. Find out where and when to stock up on this great deal.

Here's a genuine bon plan to fill your basket without breaking the bank. The Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 5 p.m., about fifteen farmers will set up a solidarity market in front of Trappes station, in the Yvelines (78). On the menu, five tons of French fruits and vegetables sold at prices softer than those of large supermarkets, in a direct sales format.

The stalls offer a fine assortment of seasonal products:

  • tomatoes and cucumbers
  • melons and nectarines
  • potatoes
  • and even a few cheeses

These products come from Lot-et-Garonne, Puy-de-Dôme, and Ardèche. They’re sold at fair prices, says Alexis Vanypre, a union facilitator for MODEF (Confédération syndicale agricole des exploitants familiaux), the driving force behind the operation. The idea is simple: prices that stay affordable, while ensuring fair compensation for those who cultivate them.

Why is MODEF hosting this solidarity market in the Yvelines?

The initiative, already rolled out in Trappes in 2023, is backed by the CGT and the French Communist Party (PCF) in Yvelines. Its stated aim is to enable as many people as possible to access quality products at affordable prices, without blowing up their grocery budget.

Behind this good deal, producers also want to raise awareness. Drought and blistering heat are taking a heavy toll on harvests, with losses up to 70% for certain crops (tomatoes, squash, beans, raspberries, peppers). In the longer run, this could show up as higher prices on supermarket shelves.

Guaranteed Minimum Prices: Farmers’ Demands

The MODEF, a left-leaning agricultural union, is urging the state to set guaranteed minimum prices so that every farm can earn a decent living from its produce. The farmers are also demanding dual price labeling — the price at production and the price paid at the till — and a ban on products treated with molecules banned in France.

Trappes Solidarity Market: When and where is it held?

The day kicks off at 2 p.m. with a discussion on family farming at the CGT 78 Departmental Union (24 Jean-Jaurès Street, Trappes). The solidarity market then takes over from 5 p.m., in front of Trappes railway station. On the same day, another event of the same kind is held in Saran, near Orléans (Loiret).

In short, affordable, seasonal French products at a great price—a smart deal you’d be silly to overlook.
