As part of the Brazil-France 2025 Season, the Colette Vivier Library invites you to a linocut workshop inspired by cordel xilogravure, this Saturday, May 31, 2025. A unique moment where Brazilian popular culture and artistic creation meet within easy reach, for adults and children aged 8 and over.

Would you like to plunge into a sensory, graphic and literary universe? As part of the Brazil-France 2025 Season, the Colette Vivier Library is offering a linocut workshop on Saturday, May 31, 2025. The workshop is part of a drive to build bridges between the cultural practices of the two countries. Cordel, the popular tradition of northeastern Brazil, combines rhyming stories and expressive engravings. Here, the technique of xilogravure - or woodcutting - is transformed into linocut, for an accessible and playful introduction to this narrative art.

This event is more than just a hobby workshop... It's a window onto the Brazilian collective imagination, with its legends, popular figures and street tales printed on simple sheets suspended from strings - the famous folhetos de cordel. Our aim? To offer a lively approach to this tradition, by reproducing the cordel aesthetic while adapting it to contemporary manual practice.

If you're curious to discover a little-known graphic culture, if you like short stories and raw, expressive illustrations, this workshop is a great opportunity. Accompanied by a specialist, you'll be guided through every step: from drawing to engraving, right through to printing your own cordel-inspired illustration. Both fun and immersive, the workshop is designed for young and old, ideal for a family outing, a creative moment shared with friends, or a cultural interlude on your own.

The atmosphere promises to be warm and creative, in keeping with the popular, direct and accessible spirit of cordel. Please note, however, that the workshop has been free of charge since April 28, but registration is required. We strongly advise you to reserve your place early to take advantage of this rare moment when Brazilian folk art invites itself to the heart of Paris's 17th arrondissement.

Will you be carried away by the graphic charm of Brazil, as part of the Brazil-France 2025 Season? The journey begins as soon as you ink your first plate.
