The musée du quai Branly - Jacques Chirac invites us to discover the Amazon region, as seen through the eyes of those who live there. With the Amazônia exhibition, presented from September 30, 2025 to January 18, 2026, the museum gives pride of place to the voices of indigenous peoples, in order to multiply our view of this mythologized region, and present a more authentic vision of this area and the people who live there.
This exhibition brings together over 200 works, combining traditional objects, videos, photographs and contemporary installations, as well as languages, songs and body graphics, which allow us to discover the rich cultures that make up this region.
Far from clichés and Western views, indigenous artists tell the Amazon story in their own way. The exhibition combines contemporary works with traditional artifacts. We discover different beliefs, practices and worldviews, where the relationship between humans, animals, spirits, plants and even foreigners weaves a web of meaning and interdependence.
Creation of the world, ceremonies to ward off illness, sharing of knowledge, links with the invisible and spiritual worlds, but also visions for the future, preservation of identities in the face of a globalized world and environmental anxiety in the face of the destruction of the Amazon: this exhibition addresses both the traditions of these peoples and their questions about the years to come.
The exhibition features a wide variety of works and objects, presenting us with a different vision of the world, without seeking to pit Western views against traditional beliefs. The aim of the musée du quai Branly is to enable a dialogue between cultures, in order to broaden everyone's horizons.
Unlike previous exhibitions, the museum has chosen a more sober, less immersive scenography. Objects are highlighted in thematic chapters, and there is a constant dialogue between contemporary artists and ancestral works.
To accompany the exhibition, the musée du quai Branly is offering a special program, including several concerts and shows by artists from Amazonia.
