In 2011, Sonic Youth fans were saddened to learn that the iconic New York rock band had split up after 30 years together. Unfortunately, the stormy divorce between Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon, the band's star couple, had led to Sonic Youth's downfall.
Since then, many have been hoping for the band's eventual return. On September 26, Sonic Youth and Kim Gordon shared an enigmatic message, rekindling rumors and hopes. The message featured the famous cover of the"Washing Machine" opus, with " 2026 " written in place of " Sonic Youth ". So, is Sonic Youth planning something for 2026? A reissue? A special tour? For the time being, the suspense remains. But Kim Gordon has said that this record was his " favorite Sonic Youth recording experience ".
The"Washing Machine" album celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Released on September 26, 1995, this album inevitably left its mark on 90s rock, thanks to tracks such as " Becuz ", " Junkie's Promise " and " No Queen Blues ". Four female singers feature on " Little Trouble Girl ": Kim Gordon, Lorette Velvette, Melissa Dunn and Kim Deal from the Pixies.
In fact, last May, Kim Gordon and Kim Deal performed this famous track " Little Trouble Girl " on Netflix's new talk show, 'Everybody's Live', hosted by John Mulaney. So, will the 30th anniversary of"Washing Machine" lead to the imminent release of a reissue, or a stage comeback and concert series for Sonic Youth? Stay tuned to find out!
