On September 22 last year, the Centre Pompidou officially closed its doors for a five-year renovation. To mark the occasion, the iconic Paris landmark pulled out all the stops. On October 22, 24 and 25, the museum offered Parisians one last, festive rendezvous—a 48-hour party blending a pyrotechnic performance with a grand celebration staged by the record label Because.
Since then, every time you pass the cultural building, you can’t help but think of past exhibitions and brace for a long wait until its reopening in 2030. Yet the Centre Pompidou is choosing to keep you entertained, announcing the spring 2027 opening of the Centre Pompidou Francilien in Massy, Essonne.
And ahead of that eagerly anticipated launch, another date awaits Pompidou enthusiasts. To mark its 50th anniversary, the museum teams up with the Philharmonie de Paris to present the event "Beaubourg mon amour: 50 years of the Centre Pompidou". For two days, on Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30, 2027, the public will be invited to properly celebrate the museum’s half-century milestone.
For the occasion, Beaubourg will take over multiple spaces at the Philharmonie de Paris and at the Cité de la Musique. The program blends film, rock and electronic music, spoken-word poetry, club culture, and sound installations from IRCAM to create two festive days.
Specifically, the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez at the Philharmonie will open on Friday, January 29 with a visual and musical performance conceived by Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith. Building on the immersive exhibition "Evidence" shown at the Centre Pompidou in 2022, the Soundwalk Collective and Patti Smith will present an original version of their project "Correspondences". Described as a "work in constant evolution", the project fuses film, music, poetry, and soundscapes into an immersive journey guided by Smith’s poetry.
Throughout the anniversary weekend, visitors can also enjoy meetings and panel discussions on the institution’s history, an Ircam cinema-concert with the Ensemble intercontemporain and the Paris Orchestra Choir inspired by Man Ray’s films, and a club night turning the venue into a dance floor.
It’s worth recalling that Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers’ iconic building opened its doors on January 31, 1977. Today the Centre Pompidou is renowned for housing one of the world’s two largest collections of modern and contemporary art. Now undergoing a metamorphosis, Beaubourg is due to reopen in 2030.
