In Adolphe Adam'sGiselle , grace mingles with tragedy: young women, shattered by the betrayal of their lovers, succumb to grief before being reborn as vengeful spirits. From then on, they drag their betrayers into a nocturnal dance as bewitching as it is fatal. This unique evening at the Folies Bergère is choreographed by Marius Petipa, Jules Perrot and Jean Coralli. Libretto by Théophile Gautier, Jules-Henri Saint-Georges and Jean Coralli, based on the legend by Heinrich Heine.
Adolphe Adam, a French composer best known for his lyric works and ballets, trained at the Paris Conservatoire and quickly became a key figure in 19thᵉ century music. His style, blending expressive melodies and refined orchestrations, made a profound mark on the Romantic repertoire.
