If you've ever dreamed of slipping behind the scenes of Montmartre's cabarets, between frills and glasses of absinthe, this show is an irresistible plunge into the daily life of a free-spirited, indomitable icon. Toulouse-Lautrec's muse, queen of the Moulin Rouge, protégé of Charles Zidler, La Goulue was much more than a cancan dancer: she was an avant-garde woman, free of the shackles of her time, as insolent as she was passionate.
It is through the eyes of Delphine Gustau, an author inspired by Lautrec's paintings, that the character takes shape. Delphine Grandsart, in a performance acclaimed by the Trophées de la Comédie Musicale, brings this fascinating heroine to life with accuracy, humor and intensity. An intimate staging, full of sensuality and emotion, where we move from the glamour of the stage to the solitude of the dressing room, from dazzling success to oblivion.
This play will appeal to fans of Parisian history and culture, and to those who enjoy strong character-driven solo theater, as well as to those who are curious about the stories of powerful women. As a couple, with friends or solo, it's a unique opportunity to (re)discover an emblematic figure of French artistic heritage from a resolutely contemporary angle.
Not to be missed in the vaulted setting of Essaïon, just a stone's throw from the Marais district, for an hour of theater suspended in time, where past and present respond brilliantly to each other.
