Marie Fortuit adapts Thérèse et Isabelle by Violette Leduc at Théâtre de la Ville, March 28-April 8. A plunge into a censored passion, at the heart of the taboos of her era.

Written between 1948 and 1951, Thérèse et Isabelle by Violette Leduc tells the story of a passionate love affair between two teenage girls. Deemed too daring, this poetic and erotic novel was censored and not published in its entirety until the early 2000s. This seminal tale of lesbian love bears witness to its author's audacity in the face of a patriarchal society that rejected this type of representation.

Marie Fortuit takes up this work with intensity, exploring its multiple dimensions: the social origins that separate the two young girls, the domination of adults over teenagers, and self-discovery. On stage, three performers embody this story through a rich scenic and sound universe, combining classical music and popular songs played live.
