The Théâtre de Gennevilliers presents The Soldier's Tale and Into the Little Hill from November 8 to 16, 2026. This Opéra-Comique double bill brings together Stravinsky and George Benjamin, in a staging by Daniel Jeanneteau and Marie-Christine Soma.

Two musical tales share the stage at the T2G, Théâtre de Gennevilliers, from 8 to 16 November 2026. With Histoire du soldat and Into the Little Hill, the theatre and the Opéra-Comique bring together two works that probe the promises of power and the price of human choices, told through a pact with the devil and a fresh take on the Pied Piper.

The premiere, Histoire du soldat, grew out of the collaboration between Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz and Igor Stravinsky in 1918. A young soldier returns home with his violin, but meets the devil along the way. The melodrama brings together three narrators and seven instrumentalists. At T2G, Christèle Tual lends her voice to the Reader, Maxime Crescini embodies the Soldier, and Roland Vouilloz portrays the Devil.

Created in 2006, Into the Little Hill pairs Martin Crimp’s libretto with George Benjamin’s music. The chamber opera reimagines the legend of a man who rid a city of its rats, only to take revenge when his wages are refused. Jennifer France and Joanne Evans perform the roles in this work for two female singers and fifteen musicians.

Daniel Jeanneteau et Marie-Christine Soma oversee the production, set design and lighting of the double bill. Lucie Leguay conducts the musical direction with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra. The running time is estimated at two hours, intermission included.

The performances take place at 41 Avenue des Grésillons, Gennevilliers: on November 8 and 15 at 4:00 p.m., followed by November 10, 12, 13 and 16 at 8:00 p.m. Agnès Terrier offers a twenty-minute introductory note before each show. Both Sundays feature a Relax welcome space, designed to ease attendance for spectators whose disability might lead to atypical behavior during the performance. A meeting with the artistic team will follow the November 15 show. Tickets are available through the T2G official box office.
