Molières du Théâtre: award-winning plays currently playing in Paris

Every year, the Molières awards recognize the best shows, performers and creators in the performing arts. Prizes awarded by professionals in the sector, they ensure a certain visibility for the winners. Here are the award-winning shows to see in Paris.

Since 1987, just like the Césars in cinema and the Victoires de la Musique in music, theater has had its own professional awards: the Molières (also known as La Nuit des Molières).

The winners are chosen by the members of theAcadémie des Molières, all of whom are theater professionals. For most of its award categories, the ceremony distinguishes between private and public theater. It rewards performers, authors and directors alike, as well as the more technical aspects, notably in the category of visual and sound creation.

What's more, the categories have evolved over the years, in line with developments in the theater world. Thus, since 2004, a Molière has been awarded for musical performances, since 2006 for shows for young audiences, and since 2016 forcomedy, which differs from the Prix du seul en scène, which rewards solo dramatic performances.

Winning one or more Molières for a show not only brings it recognition from its peers, but also guarantees it a longer run. Some award-winning plays remain on stage for several years.

Plays and shows previously awarded at the Molières are now playing in Paris:
