The Cité des Sciences inaugurates a new permanent space, dedicated to the brain and neurosciences, from September 16, 2014. In a surreal atmosphere, we test our brain capacities, study our brain from a physiological point of view and learn about its potential.

The Cité des Sciences and its various permanent exhibitions is one of the most popular places for curious and budding scientists. While there are spaces dedicated to sounds, energies, mathematics, genetics and astronomy, there was no space dedicated to neurosciences and the brain...

With the C3RV34U space, neurosciences finally have their place at the Cité des Sciences, almost 30 years after the building opened. In this space with a scenography inspired by the surrealist movement, we learn more about our brain, its functions and its capacities!

Thanks to the support of Stanislas Dehaene, professor at the Collège de France and director of the joint Inserm-CEA unitof cognitive neuroimaging, the (permanent) exhibition highlights the latest scientific advances in the field while remaining accessible to the curious.

In three sections, the C3RV34U exhibition reveals :

  • What's inside our heads?
The first part reveals the secrets of the brain, its composition, its biological and neurological functioning. The history of scientific work is highlighted, to allow us to understand how science has been able to unlock the secrets of this fundamental organ; is our brain virgin at birth?

  • The brain still active
The second part deals with the question of the development of the brain, and its skills. Our brain works during our brain, classifies information and records our experiences to make them acquired; our nervous system allows us to learn, make decisions and develop. Here, many experiences challenge us about brain activity!

  • The social brain
Finally, in the third part, the Cité des Sciences wanted to present the importance of our social environment in the development of our brain and brain activity. To feel emotions, to dialogue with other beings, so many capacities that our brain allows us, thanks to its cognitive activity.

This new "neuroludic" space offers a range of workshops, shows and quizzes, completed by the range of presentations visible at the Palais de la Découverte. You will find daily presentations on sleep, memory, optical illusions and learning in rats, adapted to children from 6 years old.
