The Grand Rex, Europe's largest cinema, invites the public to discover the behind-the-scenes world of cinema through a guided tour entitled Rex Studios. Conceived as an imaginary journey behind the scenes, this interactive audioguided tour plunges you into the secret and captivating world of the 7th Art with the creation of a film through a series of sets: projection booth, director's office, film set...

It's also a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes of a French heritage monument with a rich history, which has enjoyed its original decor since 1932.

After discovering Radio City Hall, New York's largest cinema, Philippe Hellmann was enthusiastic about the idea of creating a backstage tour at the Grand Rex. In 1998, Les Étoiles du Rex opened its doors, plunging spectators into the secrets of Europe's largest cinema. The highlights of the Rex and its construction are recounted in images at the start of the audio tour. Now renamed Rex Studios, this 7th Art cult venue has already welcomed over a million visitors!

On the program:

  • Behind-the-scenes access

Movie posters autographed by some of cinema's most famous actors decorate the wall of the staircase leading up to the Grand Rex's historic lair. Here, visitors discover that stars such as Natalie Portman, Gad Elmaleh, Leonardo DiCaprio and Renée Zelwegger have all fallen under the spell of this cult venue.

An impressive artists' entrance for visitors and actors alike: this cinema is France's "Hollywood Boulevard".

  • A retrospective of Grand Rex stars

First stop: a door opens onto the top floor of the Grand Rex tower. Here, visitors are taken on a journey through the history of this legendary venue and its stars. Along the way, visitors encounter legends of the cinema: autographs, videos, film extracts, voices, photos, objects and more.

  • The tunnel of stars

After the artists' entrance, visitors hear voices... and voices they can recognize. They are immersed in a conversation between different film stars. George Clooney, Kevin Costner, Isabelle Adjani, Coluche and Marilyn Monroe answer each other in this audio montage of very real sound extracts.

  • Elevator to the stars

Philippe Hellmann's greatest motivation was to create a behind-the-scenes tour that went behind the big screen. The challenge was met: visitors enter an elevator and fly 27 m above the stage of Europe's largest cinema, with 2,702 seats, and behind the big screen where the films are shown. It's magical!

  • The director's office

Stars, legends and giants of the cinema, this time told from the perspective of trophies, Oscars and sumptuous awards. A beautiful retrospective of mythical moments from star-studded evenings and grandiose previews at the Grand Rex. Who hasn't dreamed of sitting in the director's chair at the GrandRex?

  • The director's booth

Leaving the Director's office, filmstrips line the path to the projection booth. Visitors enter the director's den, guided by a cartoon actress. The projection booth is reproduced exactly - even in terms of sound - as it was before digital projectors were used.

  • The green screen

Visitors discover how to create realistic cinema scenes from a space decorated with a green background.

  • Silence on the set

Immersed in the filming of a scene from King Kong, visitors find themselves spectators, hidden behind the cameras. It's an ideal opportunity to imagine the atmosphere in the studios.

  • Dubbing

Another of cinema's key mysteries is revealed here. The chosen extracts were also updated at the end of last year.

To round things off, a surprise awaits visitors in the projection room. Keep your eyes and ears open. The magic of cinema has struck again.

In short, a fun and instructive visit for the whole family, which goes by far too quickly and leaves you with stars in your eyes.
