Free weekend at the Musée du Quai Branly: "Ethnology will surprise you".

The Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac is once again hosting its"Ethnologie va vous surprendre" program this Saturday, March 2 and Sunday, March 3, 2024. Following the success of previous editions, this 6th 100% free weekend puts ethnology in the spotlight, and for this new edition, the body is in the spotlight.

The weekend's program includes Grandes Conférences, led by renowned experts such as Stéphane Breton, Anne-Christine Taylor and Volmir Cordeiro. These conferences will cover a wide range of subjects, from the definition of the body to its use in ritual and sporting contexts. In parallel, interactive mini-conferences called "Têtes chercheuses" will explore fascinating themes such as the power of the body in Balinese dance or shamanic journeys in the Peruvian Amazon.

Saturday evening promises to be unforgettable, with an exceptional party lasting until midnight. On the program: original tours of the collections, collaborative performances with the Centre national de la danse and festive moments on the dancefloor to the sound of a DJ set. Highlights include a Drag King cabaret by the Kings Factory and an educational show on krump with the Art-Track company.

For film buffs, three films will be screened, offering an in-depth look at contemporary African dance, Passinho dance from the favelas of Rio and an inner adventure revealing the mysteries of the human body.

This exceptional weekend is also an opportunity to discover commentaries on works of art and flash visits around the theme of the body, as well as a selection of comics related to the body at the Jacques Kerchache reading room.
