The painter Eugène Delacroix said that the vivid colors of his paintings represented his enthusiasm and creativity. Come and admire the artist's most colorful works, from July 13 to December 31, 2022, thanks to the exhibition Delacroix et la couleur.

From fiery reds to deep blues, greens, yellows, ochres and soft pinks: Eugène Delacroix's palette contains all the finest colors, to represent a rich, vibrant, joyful world. This special relationship with color is highlighted in the Musée National Eugène-Delacroix 's exhibition Delacroix et la Couleur. From July 13 to December 31, 2022, come and admire these vibrant works, reflections of the painter's passion.

Eugène Delacroix defined himself as a colorist: working with colors, their infinite nuances and meanings, held no secrets for this artist. These pigments enabled him to bring his work to life, and represented different periods of his career.

Delacroix brought back intense colors from his travels. For him, theOrient is synonymous with shimmering colors, warm palettes and busy paintings, filled with thousands of colors, textures and details that recall theliveliness of the countries he visited.

But these colors can't shine without black and white. For a time, the artist worked with light andshadow, creating engravings and earthenware. To set himself apart from his colleagues, the painter experimented with new techniques, new arts. He experimented with engraving and lithography. In the works on display at the Musée Delacroix, we can observe an evolution in the artist's work: more nervous strokes and the play of light and shadow give it a more dramatic aspect.

The exhibition then takes us to Delacroix'sstudio, where we can admire the painter's palette and some of his greatest masterpieces. In this setting, extraordinary colors leap out at us, reflecting the life, passion and ardor that animated such a talented artist.

For the duration of the exhibition, contemporary artists display their works in the painter's room. These young talents from the Beaux-Arts have been inspired to create new projects here.

Let yourself be tempted by this magnificent artistic stroll through the paintings and engravings of Eugène Delacroix.
