Bons Baisers de Pékin exhibition at the Musée Guimet

Bons Baisers de Pékin is the Musée Guimet’s exhibition running until February 27, 2023. The exhibition celebrates 10 years of French-Chinese exchanges, recreating the universe of the Yishu 8 Contemporary Art Award, mixing French lifestyle, Chinese traditions and contemporary creations.

As a matter of fact, you shall note the Beijing Yishu 8 Art House has 3 French winners every year, enabling these artists to be immersed into Chinese culture and feed their work with new influences. In return, at the instigation of Yishu 8, several Chinese artists are invited to stay at the International City of Arts in Paris to discover the French culture in immersion.

The Bons Baisers de Pékin exhibition focuses on 10 years of cultural exchanges and has 20 artists – winners of the Yishu 8 Award – namely 13 French and 7 Chinese. Dive into the creation and discovery field with a retrospective of the contemporary work of young painters, sculptors, plastic artists, video-makers and photographers.

For the record, the Yishu 8 award rewards young French and Chinese talents every year as they are committed to the path to the other. They then have the occasion to go and discover the country and traditional culture of the other in order to dive into a foreign artistic world and draw new inspirations.

The exhibition displays the very outcome of these exchanges through the permanent collections of the MNAAG and the Hôtel d’Heidelbach. On the second floor of the permanent collection, Yishu8 Award recipients are invited to pick an object “echoing” with their approach to write, in a few words or with a picture, postcards to other artists to tell them what this or that object makes them think of. Discover it in the windows of the museum, as a witness of the museum’s story and artist’s memory.

In the Hotel Offenbach, enjoy the warm spirit of the Yishu8 workshop that was recreated on the occasion. Place of creations, meeting, and conviviality, it offers not only to discover pieces by Yishu8 award recipients, and to experiment the Chinese “lifestyle”. Therefore, enjoy rituals and contemporary performances.
