The Vever jewellery dynasty was founded in Metz in 1821 by Pierre-Paul Vever, then taken over by his son Ernest, who won his first Grand Prix at the Exposition Universelle de Metz in 1861. In 1871, Ernest decided to move to Paris, where he bought the jewelry store from Gustave Beaugrand, supplier to Napoleon III, before handing it over to his sons, Paul and Henri, ten years later.
Henri Vever, an artist trained in painting by Gérôme, is the central figure of the exhibition. A true pioneer of Art Nouveau, he transformed Vever into the benchmark for French jewelry excellence at the beginning of the 20th century. Henri won five Grand Prix at the great exhibitions of the time, and counted among his clients the Shah of Persia, Tsar Alexander II and the Belle Otéro.
Theexhibition, organized by Camille Vever, representative of the 7th generation of the dynasty, focuses on theintimate aspect of the jeweler's work, unveiling some fifty pieces of jewelry and objects loaned by the heirs & descendants of the Vever family, or by collectors and friends of the House. All the facets of Henri Vever's brilliant, eclectic personality are revealed: bibliophile, art collector, leading author of 19th-century French jewelry, traveler and Art Nouveau pioneer.
His friendship with René Lalique is also evoked through a precious set of enamel daisies.
A unique journey to the heart of the history and precious treasures of one of France's greatest jewelry houses!
