In 1948, T'ang Haywen arrived in Paris to study medicine. His plans were soon derailed: the student had fallen in love with art, and would remain in France for the rest of his life. The Musée Guimet recounts the life and work of this influential painter in a retrospective exhibition on view from March 6 to June 17, 2024.

T'ang Haywen arrived in post-war Paris, where the art scene was undergoing a renaissance. His sketchbooks recount his wanderings through Paris, from museum aisles to the streets of Montparnasse. Highly inspired by Western art, T'ang Haywen also remains attached to his native culture, blending past and present, East and West in his work. This marriage of cultures has made T'ang Haywen an eminent artist on the contemporary Chinese and international art scene.
