JEMA 2026: Discover the Secrets of Analog Photography Behind the Scenes at Studio Boissière

Published by Graziella de Sortiraparis · Updated on February 27, 2026 at 04:40 p.m.
Take advantage of the European Days of Artistic Crafts to discover more about analog photography at the historic Studio Boissière, the oldest photography studio in Seine-Saint-Denis, on April 11 and 12, 2026.

From April 7 to 12, 2026, the European Heritage of Craftsmanship Days will return to Paris and the Île-de-France region, offering a chance to explore a rich array of exceptional skills and craftsmanship traditions. Open to everyone, this free event provides a handful of spring days dedicated to connecting with professionals in the crafts sector through open ateliers, skill demonstrations, discovery workshops, lectures, and guided tours.

If you're a passionate photography enthusiast, why not explore the behind-the-scenes of a darkroom? Opened in Montreuil in 1951 by Varastrade Kasparian, Studio Boissière is a heritage site dedicated to photography and the promotion of emerging artists from migrant backgrounds. It stands as the oldest photographic studio in Seine-Saint-Denis.

In the 1960s, young photographer Roger Kasparian captured countless jazz legends with his camera: Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk... Since 2019, Maccha Kasparian has taken up the mantle, aiming to open the doors of Studio Boissière to the public as often as possible. On April 11 and 12, 2026, the studio will welcome visitors to explore the film photography process and enjoy workshops and exhibitions.

JEMA 2026 Schedule at Studio Boissière

Nelta and Maccha invite you to step back in time and experience the full spectrum of traditional silver-based photography as it was practiced over 70 years ago. From studio shoots and film development to silver print making, you'll have the chance to witness each stage in the process. Take the opportunity to explore a retrospective exhibition, and on Sundays, children can try their hand at an even older technique: cyanotype, creating photograms from negatives.

This final discovery workshop will be held on Sunday, April 12th, at 4 p.m. Reserve your spot by emailing studioboissiere.montreuil@gmail.com. The rest of the activities are open to the public and free of charge.
