For fans of cultural events, the Rendez-Vous aux Jardins is a must-attend event in spring. Every year, this green cultural event takes place in the four corners of Paris and theÎle-de-France region, offering visits, often free of charge, as well as events including workshops and concerts in both private and public parks and gardens.
Many places are perfect for the occasion: castles, museums, grand institutions and other fascinating venues open their doors to us, sometimes in an extraordinary fashion, to give us a weekend of outdoor cultural outings. With family, with friends, as a couple or solo, there’s something for everyone! The next rendezvous awaits for the weekend of June 5–7, 2026.
One of the museums taking part in the Rendez-Vous aux Jardins is the Musée Jean-Jacques Rousseau in the town of Montmorency, in the Val d'Oise. Located in a small house in which the famous writer and philosopher stayed to escape the noisy capital, this museum, which has been awarded the Maison des Illustres label, follows in the footsteps of this literary figure.
The totems, cabins and huts by Marie Busson reshape the philosopher’s garden. A stroll designed to spark reverie.
A playful path accompanies the exhibition.
Follow the guide to discover the modest home of the renowned Enlightenment philosopher and his everyday life in Montmorency! It’s here that Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrote his best-known works, including The Social Contract.
Often linked to the triumph of reason, the Enlightenment also unfolds as a stage for wounded pride, deep friendships, and explosive ruptures.
Through the Jean-Jacques Rousseau Museum collections and thanks to exceptional loans from the Music Museum – Philharmonie de Paris, the Comédie-Française, and the Domaine de Chaalis, discover how figures either rally together or clash over aesthetic, moral, religious, and political questions.
Letters, portraits, engravings, books, instruments, maps: more than sixty works reveal the complexity of these ties and show how rivalries, alliances and scandals fed major works and innovative ideas.
A plunge into an 18th century as brilliant as it was brutal.
Step into these great debates and untangle the quarrels with a free game booklet and hands-on, manipulable installations.
Enjoy the tea room in the philosopher's garden after your visit!
