A breath of fresh air is blowing through Paris, with the creation of 5 new green spaces in the capital over the course of 2025.

In response to global warming, and at a time when the World Health Organization recommends a minimum of 10 square meters of green space per inhabitant, the City of Paris has announced the inauguration, by 2040, of 300 new hectares of green space in the capital.

By 2025 alone, no fewer than 5 new green spaces will have been created (or will be well on the way to being created), led by the new forecourt at Hôtel de Ville, which is set to become an urban forest. Let us show you what the future has in store for you? Green is yours!

  • The Hôtel de Ville forecourt becomes an urban forest

Place de l'Hôtel de Ville will undergo a complete makeover insummer 2025, with the creation of an urban forest featuring 90 trees and 20,000 plants. Of the 2,500 square meters to be planted, 1,000 square meters will be in the ground. A way of refreshing the district and combating climate change in the city.

While the historic fountains will be preserved, as will the square's unifying function, the forecourt will soon be home to two wooded areas, a canopy of shrubs and ferns, native Île-de-France tree species (oak, hornbeam) and heat-resistant species (Julian hackberry, honey locust).
