Since 2008, the Carré Brassens has been a project of the 15th arrondissement municipality: in all, the 700 m² building is the former head office of the abattoirs de Vaugirard. Named in homage to Georges Brassens, the Sétois poet who left his mark on the Parisian cultural landscape, the Carré is located very close to the address where Brassens lived.
The aim? To turn the 700 m² space into a veritable headquarters dedicated to artistic practice: artists' studios, exhibitions, rehearsal spaces for theater or music... " Everything is cramped in terms of cultural practice in Paris, there is a disproportion between the demands of residents and what the city can offer," explains Philippe Goujon, mayor of Paris's 15th arrondissement.
So, for the time being, Carré Brassens is subject to a "phased opening", with major works awaiting completion to enable a more official opening to the general public. Of course, the project also aims to make room for the borough 's associations, enabling them to use the Carré Brassens premises for their own activities and events... An initiative to watch closely in the 15th arrondissement!
