Nuits des Étoiles returns August 1-3, 2025. For a whole weekend, astronomers will be inviting the curious to observe the stars in Paris and the Ile-de-France region! Click here to discover our selection of activities in the region.
It's already 35 years since the Nuits des Etoiles were created by theFrench Astronomy Association to introduce the curious to astronomy and the secrets of the universe. Three decades on, more than 250 astronomy clubs, tourist offices, vacation centers and town halls are now involved in the event, offering over a hundred events throughout France.
This year' sNuits des étoiles takes place on August 1, 2 and 3, 2025; and despite light pollution being higher in the Île-de-France region than in other parts of France, the capital and its surroundings are also taking part in this event for budding astronomers, which is entirely free and accessible to all ages, from the youngest to the most curious!
If the weather cooperates, you'll be able to follow the Perseids, those shooting stars that seem to come from the constellation of Perseus and are caused by the passage of comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle close to the sun. Every year, this passage creates a cloud of debris several tens of millions of kilometers long, which our beautiful blue planet passes through to the delight of our amazed eyes!
Please note that in the event of bad weather, cloudy skies or summer pollution peaks, there's a good chance that planned events will simply have to be cancelled, so be sure to check with associations and local authorities a few days beforehand, if you have any doubts.
What's more, if you can't make it to one of these observation evenings, the Association Française d'Astronomie is also offering twenty or so special events throughout the summer in parks and gardens across the capital!
