Are you looking for a truly unique bar in Paris? Head to the 11th arrondissement to discover La Poudrière. Behind this 150sqm hybrid place covering two stories, hides one of the most secret and attractive cocktail bars in Paris. Ready for a delicious travel in time? Come along!

While there are more and more custom-made cocktails in town, there is one bar that stands as an example. Open in 2018 in Paris 11th arrondissement, La Poudrière is not your average bar. Here, discovery, convivial talks and amazement are on the menu.

Genuine hybrid place created by the very friendly and warm Mathieu B. Girard, La Poudrière knows how to mix the mixology world to the show business and event universes, without forgetting to shine a light on musical and artistic transmission.

The tour starts with the ground floor and its art nouveau décor taking us back to Paris as it was in the 1920’s. this is here, in this small drawing room that patrons comes to enjoy one of the exquisite custom-made cocktails created and made by bartender Hervé Lulu. With 15+ years of experience down the belt in this world, and especially in palaces, Hervé works behind La Poudrière bar since it first opened and will not change so for anything in the world. Here, he is guided by his patrons’ needs to create incredible custom-made creations based on quite rare and very high-range spirits. Each experience starts with a short oral form on what you like the most: are you into sourness, bitterness, fruitiness, or spiciness?

Hervé then starts the show, torching Sichuan pepper he lets infuse under a glass. He then slices cucumber, adds some basil leaves and lime before adding more ingredients (homemade ginger juice, Italicus bergamot liqueur, Gin Monkey 47, gentian roots, Tonic The London Essence with rosemary and grapefruit).

To enhance this original and perfectly mastered creation, Hervé tops it with a cucumber slice he recommends you eat while sipping on your beverage for a totally successful experience. Bitter, sour, slightly spicy… all tastes are in there and perfectly mastered and balanced! What an achievement!

Consequently, you may wait for quite a while some nights, but it is worth it. If you are in a rush, you can walk down the basement where two lounge areas expect you, and they are wonderfully decorated (ammunition dump and engine room), as well as a dancefloor and a show venue (still on hold because of Covid-19), a smoking parlor, and another bar, the whole set under magnificent stone vaults.

For the second bar, you can choose between beer (La Bête, Corsica, IPA…), as well as infused shooters, traditional absinthe, as well as cocktails. On the menu? Classics (Mule, Old Fashioned…), as well as more elaborated cocktails such as “Baron Rouge” (Vodka, lime, blackcurrant), the “Bergen Street” (Whisky Ole Smoky Moonshine, tripe sec, lemon, sugar syrup), and even the “Bélier” (Havana 7’, lime, vanilla, ginger ale).

In addition to cocktails and a quality art program, La Poudrière wishes to become a partner for entrepreneurs, creators and carriers of all sorts of projects (designers, actors, musicians, photographers, stylists and more) by regularly organizing meetings.

In other words, La Poudrière, genuine “artistic speakeasy”, is much more than an average bar. It is a state of mind, a place of exchange and of life where a community willing to make things move forward in an always-changing world meets.
