Open since November 19, 2014, Mabel is a clandestine bar, THE bar for rum connoisseurs. In a safe and quiet place, Joseph Akhavan practices his art: mixology. And he has a secret! He knows by heart every characteristic of the 108 rums displayed and can tell you – like an oenologist – about the rum that will suit your taste and your mood.
In his office, he introduces us to the art of rum with the “roads of rum”: 8 tasting boards with 3 glasses of 0.85 fl. Oz, from €16 to €24, proposing a whole range of rum from one region of the world. For Joseph Akhavan, it’s the occasion to teach people about rum. We even notice that three rums from the same region can taste differently and be totally different.
In his cocktails, Joseph Akhavan mixes two or three rums because he knows that each rum brings peculiar flavors to cocktails. There are then 15 cocktails on the menu, for about €13.
To accompany these rums or cocktails, Samantha offers us a grilled cheese, an American specialty that comforts us because it reminds us of our childhood! For €6, we enjoy the classic, a warm sandwich with cheddar and grilled on a plate with a press, and for €8, we enjoy a Pulled Pork grilled cheese, a sandwich with pulled pork, homemade zucchini relish, cheddar cheese and even a turkey grilled cheese, the famous “Turkey Time”, with granny apple, spinach sprouts without forgetting cheddar.
