Did you know? One of Paris's most famous monuments, the Basilique du Sacré-Coeur de Montmartre, is actually one of the cheapest hotels in Paris. For no more than €30 a night, you can enjoy an unusual experience in the heart of a listed building.
The Basilique is not just another church. It's a true place of pilgrimage, celebrating the"Heart of Christ", hence the name Sacré-Coeur. Its main vocation is to perpetuate Eucharistic adoration, a form of Catholic prayer. Every evening since 1885, when the Basilica closes, people have been taking part in an intimate prayer relay from 11pm to 7am.
These people are accommodated in theEphrem hostel, which offers a choice of dormitory (€10 per night per person), single room (€30 per night) or shared room (€25 per night). Guests are welcomed between 8:30 and 9:45 pm, and silent adoration begins at 11 pm: during the night, everyone stays up for an hour or more in the basilica, so that an uninterrupted relay of prayer is established. The following morning, you can either enjoy the €4 breakfast (served from 7:30 to 8:30) or leave as soon as the basilica doors open at 6:30.
