This movie theater dates back to the 1920’s, but in 1998, the MK2 movie theater group purchases and renovates the building. The MK2 Gambetta – set in Paris 20th arrondissement – is eye-catching because of its atypical façade. Built by architect Henri Sauvage, in an Art Nouveau style, the façade is listed as historic monument since 2012, when it was last renovated.
Inside, the MK2 Gambetta movie theater features 6 auditoriums to house the public counting up to 1,000 seats. As for the program, enjoy art films but especially national releases in original version. And this is also in these auditoriums that are played special sessions such as the “cultissime” screenings, once a week. During these sessions, enjoy cult movies that marked the history of cinema such as “Some like it hot” by Billy Wilder, “Taxi Driver” by Martin Scorsese, and “Terminator” by James Cameron.
Like in the other MK2 movie theaters, in Bastille or Quai de Seine, for instance, toddlers can even have their own movie session. From 2 to 4, the “Bout’chou” sessions play movies for less than one hour, with lover sound level and soft lights. And from the age of 5, the MK2 junior sessions propose to see classic animated movies such as Disney movies like Bambi, Alice in Wonderland, and The Jungle Book.
By the MK2 Gambetta movie theater, enjoy the Place Gambetta that was recently refurbished to house bikes and pedestrians. 200 meters further, at the Square Edouart-Vaillant you can continue your walk. Unless you wish to visit the famous Père Lachaise cemetery, set within 8 minutes by foot, namely the biggest cemetery in Paris where rest lots of celebrities.
