Cannes Film Festival 2024: The selection of short films and La Cinef

The Cannes Film Festival 2024 has just announced its selection of short films and La Cinef. This year, after viewing no fewer than 4420 films, 11 short films have been selected for the competition, from 10 countries around the world: Azerbaijan, Brazil, Canada, China, Croatia, France, Kosovo, Lithuania, Portugal and the United States.

The prestigious Palme d'Or for short films will be awarded by the jury, chaired by Belgian actress Lubna Azabal, at the awards ceremony on May 25.

For its 27th edition, La Cinef has selected 18 films - 14 fictions and 4 animations - from among 2,263 short films submitted by film schools around the world. These include a Singaporean director in Australia, an Indian and a Lithuanian in the UK, a Russian in the Czech Republic and three American school films by Russian, Chinese and British filmmakers.

The same jury will award the three La Cinef prizes at a ceremony preceding the screening of the winning films, on Thursday May 23 in the Salle Buñuel.
