The Cannes Film Festival 2025 has just announced its selection of short films and La Cinef. This year, after viewing no less than 4,781 films, 11 short films have been selected for the competition, from countries all over the world. The prestigious Palme d'Or for short films will be awarded by the jury, chaired by director, screenwriter and producer Maren Ade, at the awards ceremony on May 24.
For its 28th edition, La Cinef has selected 16 films - 13 fictions and 3 animations - from among 2,700 short films submitted by film schools around the world. Among these, three short films come from schools invited for the first time: Escola das Artes - UCP (Portugal), Super16 (Denmark) and Estonian Academy of Arts. This is also Estonia's very first participation.
The same jury will award the three La Cinef prizes at a ceremony preceding the screening of the winning films, on Thursday May 22 in the Salle Buñuel.
