Cannes Festival 2025: Imago wins Œil d'Or for first Chechen film in selection

This year, L'Œil d'Or du Festival de Cannes 2025 was awarded to Imago by Déni Oumar Pitsaev, the first Chechen film to be selected at Cannes.

The Cannes Film Festival 2025 is drawing to a close, and the awards are starting to pour in. While the Semaine de la Critique, the Quinzaine des Cinéastes, the Palm Dog and La Cinef have already announced their prize lists, and the Queer Palm, the Un Certain Regard selection and the Prix du Cinéma Positif will be announced shortly, it's now the turn of theŒil d'Or 2025 to be awarded.

As a reminder, theŒil d'Or is awarded each year to the best documentary film of the Cannes Film Festival, all categories included. For this 2025 edition, the Œil d'Or jury was made up of Julie Gayet, director Carmen Castillo, producer Juliette Favreul-Renaud, Cinémathèque suisse director Frédéric Maire and actor and singer Marc Zinga.

This year, Déni Oumar Pitsaev'sImago, the first Chechen film in selection at the Cannes Film Festival - it was unveiled at Critics' Week - was awarded the prestigiousŒil d'Or 2025. The Prix Spécial du Jury was awarded to Eugene Jarecki'sThe Six Billion Dollar Man, a documentary about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.
