Not only in Official Competition, but also in the Un Certain Regard, Semaine de la Critique and Quinzaine des Cinéastes selections, the Cannes 2025 Festival has once again brought some astonishing works to the big screen.
Whether it's the content or the form, the subject matter or the way it's told, the work of a director who changes from his or her usual register, and for some features, the fact of navigating between several genres with ease, we've been given the chance to see some completely crazy films.
Top of the list was Oliver Saxe's film-trip Sirat, a rich and lively work that may be difficult for some to grasp, but which proves to be unique in its genre and fundamentally striking. A film that left no festival-goer unmoved, that's for sure, just like Kleber Mendonça Filho'sThe Secret Agent, which could well go home with a handsome award, and which skilfully blends numerous cinematic genres, from crime films to cinema bis.
But it's also a film about the Nouvelle Vague that exudes the intellectual frenzy of the era from every pore, a formally chilling film about the disintegration of a couple and post-partum madness, a crime film by a comedian usually known for his wry sense of humor, a deliciously ethereal and poetic film about one-night stands on the streets of New York, and a film with ghostly landscapes steeped in Colombian mythology.
So, if you're the type of person who likes movies that are different, throw yourself into the dark rooms once these 7 amazing films are released!
