As it happens every year, Le Royal Monceau switches to summertime and unveils its new temporary terrace called Jardin Secret provides you with the summer menu of the palace's Japanese gourmet restaurant, Matsuhisa.
Plant walls, soft colors, light strings, everything has been designed to make you forgot about the rush of the city. And it works perfectly. This Jardin Secret - fitted with 86 seats - is really quiet.
This summer, chef Nobu Matsuhisa provides you with a genuine culinary journey with Japanese and South-American flavors! On the menu, sea tacos, Wagyu beef fillet from Kagoshima, Chilean seabass, fresh salads and rolls made before your eyes by sushi masters from Le Royal Monceau.
And even though Matsuhisa summer menu is shorter than usual, it remains very complete with many recipes of rolls, tacos, sashimis... Giving pride of place to salmon, the star of this summer at Matsuhisa Paris.
After nibbling on some edamame to whet the appetite, we went for a vegetarian recipe of tacos: eggplant/avocado. A recipe so delicious and perfectly seasonned we could almost forget it is vegetarian so much vegetables are well-worked.
Then, we greet king salmon: whether it comes as a tataki or some sashimi, the fish is always mastered, finely slices and perfectly seasonned.
Even though the menu at the Jardin Secret includes Wagyu beef and chicken, fish is yet more used in dishes.
As we have already tasted the famous black cod on a Sunday brunch, we could not resist. The black cod is served so heartily that it needs to side so much the serving size is big. Pearly white inside, perfectly caramelized on the outside, the cod is such a delight.
As for seabass, it is steamed or pan-fried. This second cooking being less common, it gives the fish some crunch on the top and it is exquisite.
Moving on to desserts, even though the meal was full, some ice cream mochis enable us to wrap it up on a very refreshing note. Flavors change every day, for instance, mango or chocolate and coconut. It is light and very tasty.
To toast to friends reunion, we fall for the signature cocktails by the palace's bartender based on Japanese alcohols including the slightly bitter Jardin Secret (Belvedere Grapefruit, Tonic Fever Tree, Float by Billecart Salmon Rosé), a beverage which color reminds us of the Japanese cherry blossoms.
Also available,a selection of sake, perfect to pair the above dishes, without forgetting some champagne Billecart-Salmon.
You get it, Le Royal Monceau unveils this year again a secret, friendly and mouthwatering terrace, open every day from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. to welcome you on summer nights.
Booking is highly recommended.
Note that the Royal Monceau will only reopen on September 1. For now, the Jardin Secret and the private condos are the only premises open.
