European Heritage Days in Paris are a major event if you are curious or wish to discover the capital city in a new light. For this cultural event, lots of historic places in the City of Lights unveil their secrets. For the edition 2022, taking place on September 17 and 18, 2022, let us run to the Hôtel de Sens set in the Marais to discover the gorgeous library: the Bibliothèque Forney. And of course, it is free of charge and open to all from 5 years of age.
This is a private mansion from the 15th century listed as historic monument. And for good reason! This is one of the few vestiges from the Medieval era you can see in Paris (there are about thirty of them in the city). Genuine gothic architecture gem, since 1886, it has been housing the Bibliothèque Forney.
For European Heritage Days 2022 in Paris, the Hôtel de Sens opens this very gem. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. roam around the Bibliothèque Forney, specialized in arts, decorative arts and artistry since 1961.
Admission is free of charge. Once inside, discover some rare collections of the library specialized in artistry, decorative arts, fashion, design and graphism: ancient books, magazines, catalogs, posters, fanzines, artists’ books and presentation of the studio of document preservation.
This year’s themed being sustainable heritage, the Bibliothèque Forney offers you to discover the rare and precious collections about wood-working and techniques. You are also encouraged to discover the exhibition of design and wood creations by the wood sector of the Centre-Val de Loire region.
And in the courtyard, enjoy a presentation of the history of the Hôtel de Sens by the association Paris Historique, as well as entertainments and postcard sale by the Société des Amis de la Bibliothèque Forney. Shall we go, friends?
