Surfing in Paris? This is the crazy project said to be on by April 2021 in the 15th arrondissement. The upcoming quirky sports complex is also said to provide squash courts.

Paris truly is the place to be for crazy projects. As the French capital is to be fitted with four urban forests soon, a new quirky spot is about to open. In the heart of Paris 15th arrondissement, a sports complex comes to 107 rue de la Croix-Nivert. Why is it special? It offers you to surf in Paris! Gabriel Medina’d better brace himself…

But how did we get there? In 2016, the city of Paris launches a call for project for “Paris terrain de jeux” [playground Paris]. Among the winners, there is the Maraga company managed by Jean-Baptiste Piette who proposes to create a surf area with a double man-made wave by La Croix-Nivert. According to Le Parisien, this crazy spot would welcome the first surfers from April 2021.

This project – costing at least 4 million euros of investments – is said to cover 1,000sqm. In addition to the 15m high and 8m wide artificial wave open to children from 6-7 years, this uncommon sports complex would also house four squash courts. The goal? Democratizing these sports that are not really accessible and even very unique in Paris. Designed as a living place, the spot will also house playful and food areas.
