After announcing the La Chapelle district was to be refurbished, the Paris authorities presented a project to create a new layout of the Champs-Elysées expected to “reenchant” the avenue prior to the 2024 Summer Olympics.

Paris authorities are intending to renovate the city before it is exposed to the world for the 2024 Summer Olympics. The most touristic sites are in the aim of these huge renovation projects, and especially the Champs-Elysées. After transforming the La Chapelle area, the “Réenchanter les Champs-Elysées” project aims at transforming the most famous avenue for 2024. Renovations start this Thursday September 15, 2022. First Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Grégoire, Paris 8th arrondissement mayor Jeanne d'Hauteserre and several deputy mayors went to the Champs-Elysées port to attend the first unloading of the first barge bringing materials.

On the menu, more trees fewer cars! The two ends of the world’s most beautiful avenue will be impacted by these changes, as announced by the Paris authorities and the Champs-Elysées committee – gathering storekeepers and companies on the avenue. The idea is to refresh the large avenue that lost its glory over the past decades. Starting with the Place de la Concorde, entirely redesigned by the Olympics, the gardens on one hand, and the Champs-Elysées on the other hand, likely to become stroll-inducing gardens with about a hundred trees planted, pedestrian streets, to respond to global warming accurately.

The Arc de Triomphe is not left out since the Etoile roundabout will lose space for cars. Anne Hidalgo announces an “extension of the pedestrian rink around the monument” by Fall. The top of the avenue, very business-minded, will see the sidewalks and urban furniture renovated. All this, for a total of 26 million euros by 2024.

Paris authorities also expect to bring Parisians back to the avenue, genuine window display of the capital city, laid out in 1670 and that overcome centuries. The Champs-Elysées are abandoned by locals, mostly visited by foreign tourists and customers from luxury stores along the avenue.
