Although Camille Claudel has been the subject of numerous monographic exhibitions, little is known about her artistic and cultural environment, particularly the women sculptors of her time.
The result of a collaboration between the Musée Camille Claudel, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Tours and the Musée de Pont-Aven, this temporary exhibition aims to reveal these talented artists, studio mates, friends and rivals of Camille Claudel, who also left their mark on the world of sculpture through their fertile imagination and undeniable talent.
Visitors will have the opportunity to discover original works by these female sculptors, accompanied by portraits painted or photographed in their studios, as well as correspondence exchanged between Camille Claudel and her fellow artists. These elements will offer an immersion into the female artistic network that Camille Claudel rubbed shoulders with during her career, from her beginnings in late XIXᵉ century Paris to her internment in March 1913.
Make a note of the date, it promises to be a wonderful perspective on 19th-century women sculptors, who often remained in the shadows!
