We're off to the Domaine du Château de Chantilly to discover the private apartments of the Duc and Duchesse d'Aumale, reopened at the start of 2019. Discover the only princely apartments from the July monarchy to have been entirely preserved in France. A must-see visit.

It took no less than 2 years of work to be able to offer us the discovery of the private apartments of the Duke and Duchess of Aumale within the Château de Chantilly.

Discover the 8 rooms, decorated by Eugène Lami between 1845 and 1847, which have benefited from exceptional restoration of both décor and furnishings.

You'll be amazed by these rooms located in the heart of the oldest part of the site, within the Petit Château Renaissance, built from 1557-1558 by architect Jean Bullant on behalf of Constable Anne de Montmorency. Rooms steeped in history that will leave you breathless.

We discover the beauty of the duchess's blue and gold bedroom, with its beautiful spring painting on the ceiling, its cradle and its prie Dieu showing just how pious the duchess was.

Compared to the sumptuous rooms of the château, the Duke's bedroom is very modest: a military bed and a beautiful cylinder desk by cabinetmakers Jean-Michel and Guillaume Grohé, given to his son by King Louis-Philippe in 1847, make up the décor.

In the 18th century, these rooms were fitted out for the Duke and Duchess of Bourbon. It was in the now purple room (formerly green, it was turned purple - the color of mourning - at the Duke's request following his wife's death) that the Duchess gave birth to the Duc d'Enghien, who later met with a tragic fate.

From this period, the place retains an astonishing and unique Chinese cabinet: the Petite Singerie (not to be confused with the Grande Singerie in the grand apartments). Created in the 1730s by Christophe Huet, this little boudoir reveals scenes of daily life, with monkeys taking the place of men and vice versa.

These apartments had remained virtually untouched since the death of the Duke and Duchess. This major renovation project not only restored the aged décor, but also the furniture and textiles.

All that's left for you to do is drop in on this magnificent château, which is well worth a visit. Take the opportunity to stroll through its magnificent garden and, like us, why not take a pedal-boat ride?
